the limits ...

Postby jonat8han » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:35 am

Hi,

just bought elastic~, which is totally amazing - definitely the object I've been waiting for!!

any plans or possibilities of removing the 0.5-2.0 limits? would love to be able to put really low & high values in here, regardless of the sound.

EDIT: Just saw the 'extraoctave' message, which is cool - would love to be able to stop it entirely, though - maybe an extra inlet that receives a signal & behaves as groove~ does, so in addition to the stretching/pitching of elastic~ we still have the standard speed controls?

elastic~ uses Zplane's Elastique algorithm which is designed for 'natural' sounding pitch / time shifts. Realistically nothing is going to sound natural at more than 0.5 - 2.0 really (and it get's pretty cpu intensive beyond those bounds), so this is the limits of the algorithm (not something we've put in the object).

However, we know that the Max community doesn't really do 'limits' ! so Joe and I have been working on our own algorithm, specifically designed for Max, which has no limits. If there's enough demand (?) we'll make an 'extreme' version of elastic with this (which will be able to accept signal inputs as well). It's sounding good, but for small changes in pitch / speed the original elastic~ is about as high quality as I've heard.

that would be totally amazing!!!

I find myself often wanting to slow files down to the point of completely stopping them (like a record), sometimes very gradually in the middle of a live performance ... I would love to use elastic~ to do this, so I wouldn't have to have two objects (one groove~ one elastic~) running simultaneously and switch between them when the circumstances require, if that makes sense?

i did buy elastic~ already.
i also would be VERY interested in an "extreme" version, better to be called "unlimited" i suppose.
if pitch sounds unnatural abroad the yet built-in limits, this should still not limit it's musical usefulness.
let's unlimit this.

i am also with jonathan on establishing the groove typical controls for pitch/speed as well as reversed playback!
added to that it would help to have an on/off or bypass switch to establish a non-processed playback at original pitch.
a long time of drawback of ableton was, that one could not switch of the pitching engine for audio playing back at original pitch. processing a nonpitched file unfortunately resulted in degraded sound nevertheless.

i certainly hope, that you will offer an upgrade deal to existing customers of elastic~, when completing the pitch-unlimited version.

Thank you very much for your efforts.

Matteo Manassero Shines on Masters Debut

Postby Golfclubs0 » Thu Jun 03, 2010 12:22 pm

Italian teenager Matteo Manassero etched his name into Masters history in some style on the final day at Augusta.

The 16-year-old amateur, the youngest to ever compete at the Masters, birdied the 18th to finish four over, earning a fine reception and the Silver Medal.

"It will definitely help me to be comfortable with this crowd and understand I can compete with these guys," said Manassero. (callaway Irons)

The youngster will turn professional at next month's Italian Open.

His score put him ahead of the likes of former Masters winners Zach Johnson and Mike Weir as well as Retief Goosen and Sergio Garcia, a player who made his own memorable debut at the Masters back in 1999.

Manassero, the only amateur to make the cut at Augusta, also shone at the Open last year, winning the Silver Medal at Turnberry in recognition of his achievement as the highest finishing amateur.

"Today I think I played really good," said Manassero, the first amateur since 2005 to play in the final two rounds at Augusta.

"I can't play much better than this. I maybe left on the course some birdie chances. I made two bogeys, but I finished with a good birdie - that's a good memory."

Manassero earned his place at Augusta by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the British Amateur Open last year.( Ping G15 Fariway Wood)

The fervent AC Milan fan will try to secure his place on the European Tour through seven invitations he has been offered, with the secondary Challenge Tour and the qualifying school as a possible fallback.
